Local veteran Bob Cooper: 1930-2008
Rollinsville veteran Bob Cooper lived the last 20 years of his life in the mountains and was known to be a good friend and supporter of veterans in the area. Cooper loved his dogs, his leatherworking hobby and a good argument. Cooper died on December 11th after a month long stay in hospice care. He is one of the last of many long-time veteran residents who made the mountains their home and he will be missed by the many people he helped with his handyman skills. Cooper was born on Feb. 18, 1930 in St. Louis, Mo. He was 78 years old. He joined the Marine Corps in 1948 and was deployed to China and then Korea. In 1951, Cooper left the service on a medical discharge after being hit with shrapnel. He worked with the Longmont Fire Department, was a cook and became an expert in repairing saddles and loved anything to do with leather work.Cooper moved to the mountains in 1988 and lived in a cabin near Rollinsville where he helped his neighbors with handy man type work. There will be a memorial to celebrate Cooper’s life sometime in the Spring. More obituaries can be found on page 20.
