Marc Tonglen ROLLINSVILLE The Trackside Tavern is holding their first concert with The Garry Harpe / Larry Sims duo, otherwise known as "Kicked to the Curb," this Saturday, August 15 at 8:00 p.m. The establishment has heritage that began back in 1868 while "John Henry" was beating his hammer down in an historic competition against the mighty steam drill. Being steeped in Great American Folklore, it is possible that Henry enjoyed fine libations, food and company at The Stage Stop in Rollinsville with the good company of the immigrants who built the rails. Any man who drinks a fine ale on the deck of the old establishment, now known as The Trackside Tavern, will peacefully recollect the wondrous process of building a quaint railroad through the Great Divide. Lucky for these immigrants at the time, it was always warm and the wind never caused much a hassle. Kicked to the Curb is comprised of Gary Harpe (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Larry Sims (vocals, bass, guitar). Harpe is originally began his music career in Kentucky and later moved on to the Pacific Northwest before settling in the Nederland/Rollinsville area. For over thirty years, Gary Harpe has been entertaining audiences with his eclectic approach to rock n' roll and bluegrass music. Larry Sims is a 45 year veteran as a professional musician. Throughout time, he has been awarded with ten Gold albums and two Platinum albums and a Grammy nomination coming from his contribution as a bass player and back-up vocalist with the group "Loggins and Messina." Larry has also recorded and toured with Greg Allman, The Spencer Davis Group, The Sunshine Company and Chris Hillman from the Byrds. The Trackside Tavern plans to feature music from the 50s, 60s and 70s as well as some regional bands from the area. They also are prepared to have a Sunday afternoon pick with a live open stage. The new barbecue smoker is in full swing, offering a delectable array of chicken, pulled pork and beef brisket. The tavern is already tempting Gilpin County residents with the tangiest scents and the sweet aroma of slow cooked meat all the way from Help Towing to Fortune Valley. Happy hour is running from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily, so walk on in, call your drink and spin the wheel for a chance for a free beer. Become a part of the folklore by coming out for the inaugural performance of 'Kicked to the Curb' at The Trackside Tavern this Saturday evening.
