NEDERLAND This weekend, the top section of the Carousel of Happiness was installed, just in time for the family event entitled “The Fairy and Other Magical Creatures Afternoon Tea” which will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. To 5:00 p.m. The Carousel group has announced that Jaden Carlson, the nine-year-old musical phenomenon who has played Red Rocks, Telluride and numerous other musical venues, will be performing from 2:00 – 3:00 at the event. This will be the first fundraising event that will be held on site at the carousel. As the carousel floor and animals will not yet be installed, there will plenty of floor space for the afternoon's program, which will include tea parties and other refreshments, music by Jaden and also featuring other young musicians, craft making for kids, photo opportunities, and a chance to see the completed ceiling of the carousel. This will also be the first opportunity for potential adopters to see the carousel fairy collection that is up for adoption and the first chance many will have to see the Rounding Boards and presentation characters in place on the Carousel hood. The group is still raising money to complete the bathrooms and gift shop portion of the structure, so tickets to the Fairy Tea will be $5.00 per person, and the Fairy Project hopes to raise building funds through the adoption of the fairies that have been made by local crafters. In the weeks following the tea, Scott Harrison, the creator of the carousel, says that the rest of the carousel will be installed. The carousel plans to be open for operation by Memorial Day, 2010. |
