Janet Perry NEDERLAND Grow in Peace is Nederland's new indoor/outdoor gardening supply center. They had their "soft opening" on Halloween day. The new business is located at the corner of Highway 119 and Big Springs Road, just above Blue Owl Books. The new owners are Steven Brown, Kim Stefane, Lynn Hannah and Ben Griffin. The new business is up and running and their shelves are stocked with some of the most cutting-edge growing supplies. "We are a retail, full-spectrum gardening supply center, so you can get anything you need to grow indoors or outdoors; food, vegetables, herbs, whatever it is that you want to grow, we will supply all of your needs," explains new owner Kim Stefane. "We're extremely competitive. We're trying to beat any price that anybody can find on the Front Range. We're happy to give our customers the best price. We will even deliver." When asked why she decided to get involved the Blue Owl Books owner shared her vision for the new enterprise. "For me, a big part of the inspiration was the fact that I've lived up here in the Nederland area for about twenty years and have been growing, and attempting to grow my own food... and have done pretty well sometimes and not so well other times; because of the short growing season, lack of water, animals, whatever. All of us who live up here know that its very difficult to grow any substantial amount of food... and I thought, 'Hey, I'd love to support something that is working towards that and this winter will be the first winter that I will be growing food throughout the whole year; growing a lot of my vegetables inside and that kind of thing through the winter...' So, I'm pretty excited about that." Owner Lynn Hannah pointed out that "Among all 4 partners we have 77 years of residency in the Nederland area." The team understands the challenges of growing in the harsh Nederland winters. Stefane added, "I think Nederland is a perfect place to open a garden supply center to support a lot of the trends that are happening now with different things being grown... and I just feel like its really important to support that; to support people being able to grow, and you know, fulfill their needs year-round; indoor or outdoor." Stefane feels confident in their ability to please the local clientele. "We have one person, Ben (Griffin), who is involved with us who is extremely knowledgeable about anything you need to set up any kind of system. Anything that we don't know, we will find out for you within 24 hours. And, on top of that we will be offering classes on how to set up a hydroponic system, how to garden indoors in pots, how to do all of that; so we will be, down the road, offering classes that people can come and take." When asked about the name of the new business, Stefane said, "We just sat around brainstorming, and that was the one we all liked best...yes, like 'go in peace' which is a wonderful thing to wish for anyone. Grow in Peace - that's our wish for people." |
