ELDORA

At 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Eldora Mountain Resort opened the season greeted by a "Chamber of Commerce Day" on the mountain.
EMR employees were all in there places with bright shiny faces welcoming first day skiers.
David Nitsch of Nederland watched as riders and skiers lined up for the chair lift. It was his job to scan the tickets and passes and he was eager for the season to start. “I am so excited to be working so close to home,” he said.
Eliot Lee of Rollinsville stood at the front of the line. For years he attempted to grab the first chair lift. He grabbed it last year and defended his first chair title again this year after standing in line since 7:30.
Glenn Miller of Lyons arrived at 7:32 and the two men got to know each other as they waited, neither one wanting to give up his spot. They were joined by Joe Christianson of Lyons, who said he had never been on the first chair before.
“I just want to be the first up on the slopes,” he said,
When the clock hit 9 a.m., Dave Hunter, EMR operations director, said “Welcome back, everyone.”
And then he escorted Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy John Seifert on the first ski patrol run of the new season. Chol Gremillion, 82, a former first chair contender said he doesn’t even try anymore. He’s just happy to be back on the trails.
“I haven’t skied anywhere but Eldora for the past three years,” says Gremillion.
Joe Christianson completed his first run with a grin on his face, saying, “It is a lot better than I thought it would be.”
As the guests enjoyed the snow, employees made sure the rest of the departments were up and running. Marketing director Rob Linde says everything was going surprisingly smooth and the painting and remodels look good.
“We did a lot of work over the summer. There is a lot of change and everyone is embracing it.”
In the lift ticket office, Marisa Paquini took pictures and handed out passes, saying she had worked at Eldora before and she was happy to return.
Michael Myers and Dave Kaiser were proud to show off their new products, including Eldora hoodies with a cool new design and fleece lined bandanas for the face.
Mike Mayo, Dan  Flood and Teddy Pumphrey worked behind the counter in the cafeteria, ready to throw Angus beef  burgers on the grill and toss a Mediterranean salad.
Although the Nordic Center did not share EMR’s opening, with the cooperation of the weather, the trails should be open in the next couple of weeks.
