In “a unique architectural statement to energy conservation” Lighthouse Solar has contributed a photovoltaic solar system to the Carousel of Happiness in Nederland. Lighthouse Solar, a solar installer rooted in Nederland since 2006, has donated and installed the equipment and will donate the electricity produced by the solar system. The building will have demonstration areas to educate visitors on the various green aspects of the building. The carousel will also accommodate disabled riders and donate their net profits to charities that help children and the disabled.
The 5-kilowatt system uses 27 Lumos solar panels and is expected to produce over 7,000 kWh per year. The system will save the Carousel an estimated $40,000 in electrical costs over the next 25 years. Lighthouse Solar owns and maintains all equipment and receives a monthly payment for the electricity produced by the system. The system is one of the first installed under Xcel Energy’s Residential Third Party Ownership Program, in effect since September 2009. Third-party owned residential systems continue to be installed by Lighthouse Solar under its Solar Saver solar system financing program.
Lighthouse Solar is a leading installer/integrator of solar electric and solar thermal systems for home and business. Based in Boulder, Colorado with a branch office in Carbondale, Lighthouse Solar has franchise offices in California, Texas and New York.
